Our route

This is our route. It has gone through many changes and bears a vague resemblance to journey that we envisaged when we left England.

19th August '12:    Flew London to Rio de Janeiro

22nd August:         From Rio to REGUA (Reserva Ecologica de Guapiacu) 
                                Overland from Rio to Guapiacu (approx 80 kms north east of Rio)

2nd September:     Overland from REGUA to Rio

4th September:      Flew from Rio to Brasilia, then flew to Cuiaba, in the Pantanal area of 
                                Brazil. Overland from Cuiaba to Southwild in Northern Pantanal

8th September:      Overland to Cuiaba, fly to Campo Grande

9th September:      Van from Campo Grande to Bonito

13th September:     Van from Bonito to Campo Grande, then flew to Curitiba
                               
16th September:     Train to Morretes

20th September:     Bus to Paranagua, ferry to Ihla do Mel

26th September:     Ferry to Pontal do Sul, on mainland, bus to Parangua terminal, bus to 
                               Curitiba, overnight bus to Sao Paolo, bus to Ubatuba. 

2nd October:         Local bus to Caragua, coach to Sao Paolo airport, fly to Lima (Peru), 

                              then Guayacil (Ecuador) then Galapagos.

30th October:        Flew from Galapagos to Quito, via Guayacil, then flew to Lima (Peru).

31st October:        Flew from Lima to Sao Paolo (overnight, arrive 1/11)

2nd November:    Flew from Sao Paolo to Buenos Aires, Argentina


9th November:     Ferry to Colonia, Uruguay, (1 hour) and then coach to Montevideo (2 1/2 hrs)


11th November:   Bus to La Paloma (3:50 hours)

16th November:   Bus and 4x4 to Cabo Polonio

22nd November:  Bus to Punta del Diablo


24th November:   Bus to Montevideo and then Colonia


25th November:   Ferry to Buenos Aires, bus to Tapalque


26th November:   Car to Estancia La Margarita


28th November:   Overnight bus to Azul then to Puerto Madryn (13 hours)


4th December:     Overnight bus to Rio Gallegos then El Calafate (23 hours) 


6th December:     Bus to El Chalten


16th December:   Overnight bus to Bariloche via Rio Gallegos (33 hours)


27th December:   Overnight bus to Mendoza (19 hours)


30th December:   Hire car from Mendoza to San Rafael


10th January '13: Left San Rafael for Mendoza - lorry explosion blocks road, return to 

                            San Rafael
11th January:       Drove to Mendoza for rental car service, overnight in Mendoza (300 km)

12th January:       Drove to Malargue, via Las Lenas, lunch at Andes Lands, (520 km)


13th January:       Drove to Chos Malal (350 km)


14th January:       Drove to Villa El Chocon (350km) 


15th January:       Drove to Malalcahuello, Chile, via Lago de los Barreales (600km)


20th January:       Drove to Pucon (100km)


22nd January:      Drove back to Malalcahuello


25th January:       Drove north, through Santiago, over Argentinian Border to Penitentes,                                at foot of Aconcagua. (900km; arrived 6am - 5 hour delay at border)


29th January:       Left Penitentes for San Rafael, via Mendoza (450km)


8th February:       Left San Rafael for Mendoza (250 km)


9th February:       Bus cancelled due to landslide


10th February:    Took hastily arranged flight to Santiago; then flew from Santiago to                                      Auckland (NZ)


11th February:    Rented car and drove to Whangerai (160km)


14th February:    Drove to Pahia (75km)


15th February:    Drove to Matai Bay then down to Whangerai (300km)


16th February:    Drove to Rotorua (390km)


23rd February:    Drove to Waitomo (160km)


24th February:    Drove to Lake Taupo (150km)


1st March:           Drove to Paraparaumu (320km)


2nd March:         Drove to Wellington (50km) then ferry to Picton, South Island


3rd March:          Drove to Christchurch via Kaikoura (340km)


5th March:          Drove to Akaroa (80km)


6th March:          Drove to Lake Tekapo (300km)


8th March:          Drove to see Mount Cook (105km)


9th March:          Drove to Te Anau (435 km)


11th March:        Drove to Queenstown (170km)


12th March:        Drove to Glenorchy (50km)


13th March:        Drove to Arrowtown (70km)


14th March:        Drove to Wanaka (55km)


18th March:        Drove to Hokitika (420km)


19th March:        Drove to Murchison (200km)


21st March:        Drove to Picton (200km) then ferry to Wellington, North Island


22nd March:       Drove to Lake Taupo (400km) for Frankie's Skydive!


24th March:        Drove to Auckland (280km)


25th March:        Flew to Fiji, Nadi airport


26th March:        Bus to Suva, another bus to ferry then ferry to Ovalau (7 hours)


9th April:            Ferry then bus to Korova, then bus to Rakiraki, ferry to Nanau-ira and Macdonalds


15th April:          Bus to Nadi.  Flew to Sydney then on to Perth


17th April:          Left Perth northbound for Cervantes in our newly hired RV (190km)


18th April:          Drove to Geraldton (220km)


20th April:          Drove to Monkey Mia (430km)


21st April:          Drove to Carnarvon (350km)


22nd April:        Drove to Exmouth (400km)


26th April:         Drove to Kurrajong beach in Cape Range National Park for a night (70km)


27th April:         Returned to Exmouth


28th April:         Drove to Tom Price (570km)


29th April:         Drove to Karajini (70km)


30th April:         Drove to Newman (170km)


1st May:            Drove to Sandstone (750km)


2nd May:          Drove to Lake Ballard (360km)



3rd May:           Drove to Kalgoorlie (130 km)

6th May:           Drove to Merriden (300 km)

7th May:       Drove to Perth (300km)

10th May:         Flew to Singapore, slept at Airport

11th May:         Flew to Kuala Lumpur, then flew to Kathmandu, Nepal

20th May:        Car to Pokhara (230km - 7 hours)

3rd June:   Car back to Bhaktapur (240km - 8 hours)

7th June:          Flew from Kathmandu to Kuala Lumpur

23rd June:       Flew to Georgetown, Penang

27th June:       Flew back to Kuala Lumpur

29th June:       Flew to Kota Kinabalu, Borneo

1st July:           Bus to Sepilok (8 hours)

4th July:          Car to Kinabatangan

6th July:          Bus to Semporna

7th July:          Boat to Mabul

9th July:          Boat back to Semporna

10th July:       Car to Tawau airport and fly to Kota Kinabalu

11th July:        Drive to Mount Kinabalu National Park

13th July:        Drive to Tip of Borneo

16th July:        Drive to Kota Besut

17th July:       Drive to KK

18th July:        Fly to Miri, then to Mulu

21st July:        Fly to Kuching

23rd July:       Fly to khota bharu via KL

24th July:        Drive to Kota Besut then boat to perhentians

30th July:        boat back to Kota Bharu, fly to Singapoore via KL

1st August:     Leave Singapore, our adventure ends

2nd August:    Arrive London Heathrow Terminal 5, just before breakfast
