The kiwi bird - by Frankie

We hadn't seen a kiwi in the wild because they are nocturnal and very hard to spot.  So we went to a bird sanctuary where they had rescued some.  We saw lots of other birds including the kiwi!

It was dark and we weren't allowed to take any photos though.

Facts

1.   Some silly people introduced a new species called a stoat into New Zealand who eat 95% of the kiwis when the kiwis are very young !!!!!!!!       They introduced a stoat to kill all the rabbits but they ate the rabbits and the kiwis!!!!!!

2.  It is an amazing flightless bird that belongs to the genus Apteryx and is endemic to New Zealand. This beautiful bird is grayish-brown in color and possesses the size of a domestic chicken.
